My Daily Thoughts–Revelation 1:7-8

  • by

Revelation 1:7-8 (NKJV) Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

V7 “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.”
Why is Jesus come with clouds? Clouds are associated with great power and majesty (2 Samuel 22:12, Job 22:14, Psalms 97:2, Daniel 7:13, and Zephaniah 1:15) and no one has greater power and majesty than Jesus (Matthew 28:18 and John 17:2). Those who pieced Him (Zechariah 12:10) include both the Romans, who nailed him to the cross, and the Jewish leaders, who wanted Jesus dead by manipulating Pilate to crucify Jesus. These tribes have sinned and not repented or placed faith in Jesus Christ. Now, Jesus comes to judge.
Comments:
Revelation 1:5 (Walvoord Prophecy Commentary) “There is no indication that the world as a whole will see Christ at the time of the rapture of the church (cf. 1 Thess. 4:16-18, where believers will be caught up “in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air,” v. 17). But when Jesus comes back to establish His kingdom, all will see Him, including both those who “pierced him” and all the peoples of earth.”

V8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. Jesus is the first, not the first created, but the creator. He is eternal without beginning. He is the Almighty, the supreme authority. Only God could state such things.

We learn:
• Jesus will return
• Jesus is God
