Revelation 5:11-14 (NKJV) Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and riches and wisdom,
And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”
13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:
“Blessing and honor and glory and power
Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb, forever and ever!”
14 Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.
V11 “Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands…” The number of holy angels is beyond our understanding. The holy angels stayed loyal to God when Lucifer lead his rebellion.
V12 “…saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!” There is no other who is worthy of such honor (Colossians 1:18 NKJV And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence). He was killed by the Romans on the cross. It was payment for our sins, justification, and the zillion blessings God has for those who believe. The power refers to His ability, authority, majesty. Riches = any and every good thing. Wisdom–He is omniscient. Strength is might, force, and strength to do what is necessary. This is not just a physical strength but a mental and spiritual strength, too. Honor–as to a king, and Jesus is the King of all kings, the Supreme. Glory–the awesomeness of His character traits and everything about Him, His throne, His clothes, His servants. Blessing from His Father and thanks from His servants (us).
V13 “And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!” Him who sits on the throne is God the Father. God’s kingdom is a never ending kingdom with never ending blessing, honor, glory, and power. Every created creature will rejoice.
V14 “Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.” All gave their hearty approval.
We learn:
- The greatness and preeminence of Jesus
- The glory of His person and His kingdom
- The worship we give Him is freely given
