My Daily Thoughts—Revelation 22:6-7

  • by

Revelation 22:6-7 (NKJV) Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true.” And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place.

7 “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

V6 “Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true.” And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place.” All of God’s words are faithful and true. The Greek word for faithful is (G4103) πιστός pistós, which means objectively believable and reliable. In English, the idea of faithful is being loyal and steadfast. It pairs well with true, which is the Greek word (G228) ἀληθινός alēthinós meaning that which is corresponding to reality. It is the opposite of a lie. Since this message of revelation to John came from God, it is reliable and without falsehood. It is emphasized that God here is the God and Lord of the holy prophets. God delegates, thus sends the angel. The reason for the Book of Revelation is to let God’s servants know what is coming. It is of importance to us today to know this, but even more important to those living in those days. It will authenticate everything and help them know the seasons and times of the Tribulation.

V7 “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Time is in God’s hands. This wording implies imminence. Jesus could come at any time. The wording is similar to Revelation 1:1. Keeps the words implies the plain, normal sense and believing it.

2 Peter 3:11 (EHV) Therefore, since all these things will be destroyed, what kind of people ought you to be, living in holiness and godliness?

We learn:

  • God’s words are faithful and true.
  • God’s words will happen.
  • God knows the future.
