My Daily Thoughts—Mark 14:10-11

Mark 14:10-11 (NKJV) Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus

(Matt. 26:14–16; Luke 22:3–6)

10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.

V10 “Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them.”

Why was Judas chosen to be an Apostle? My opinion: “Jesus knew from the time God’s plans were made what would happen to Him. God planned for Jesus to be the Passover Lamb, which He was a willing volunteer. God wanted a betrayer and knew that Judas with his carnal passions would be the man. So then, Jesus chose Judas, whom He knew would be the betrayer.” Judas did not have to do this, but He refused every kindness of Jesus’s appeal for his faith.

V11 “And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.”

Judas made the offer. He probably hinted for a financial reward. The leading priests and Pharisees were 1) glad, 2) promised him a financial reward.

It is truly sad when the best news of the day is an opportunity to kill an innocent person. These men were very evil and a plague in human society.

Proverbs 17:15 NKJV – He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, Both of them alike [are] an abomination to the LORD.

We learn:

  • Why God chose Judas to be the betrayer.
  • Evil people often love to kill someone they do not like or agree with.

Questions:

  • What are you known to be at the very core of your being?
  • Can you be bought?
