My Daily Thoughts—1 Corinthians 15:24-28

1 Corinthians 15:24-28 (WEL) 24 Then the end comes when he will have delivered the kingdom to God, even the Father, after he has made all rule, authority, and power inoperative. 25 For he must reign until he has put all enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For he has put all things under his feet. Now when he says, “Everything is put under his feet,” it is clear that he is excepted who did put everything under him. 28 When everything will be under his authority, then the Son will also be under the authority of him who put everything under him, so that God may be completely over all.

V24 Then the end comes when he will have delivered the kingdom to God, even the Father, after he has made all rule, authority, and power inoperative.

The end does not mean something is destroyed; it means completion.

The Kingdom is the world kingdom ruled by Jesus Christ (the Millennial Kingdom—Zechariah 14:9, Psalm 67:4, and Psalm 2:6-8).

The Lord Jesus has proven Himself to be obedient to His Father, a King of kings ruling with perfect wisdom and skill, and a loving shepherd.

His kingdom is everlasting but after accomplishing everything the Father wants Him to do, He then returns the Kingdom to the Father. Every enemy has been destroyed and every prophecy fulfilled.

V25 For he must reign until he has put all enemies under his feet.

This includes evil people who refuse to believe and trust in Jesus. His other enemies include satan and his angels, death, sin, and the curse from sin, etc.

V26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.

Death is separation, not annihilation. Humanity is separated from fellowship with God, as well as all creation. Death will be cast into hell, too. There will be no more sin and evil. What remains is God’s eternal rule.

Biblical Illustrator on Romans 6:23:

“Its nature. Death is separation. We call it dissolution.

(1) Bodily death is the separation of the soul from the body.

(2) Spiritual death is the separation of the soul from God, in whose favor is life.

(3) Eternal death is the perpetual separation of both body and soul from God’s presence and favor. This is called in Scripture “the second death” (Rev 20:14).

V27 For he has put all things under his feet. Now when he says, “Everything is put under his feet,” [Psalm 8:6] it is clear that he is excepted who did put everything under him.

The Lord Jesus has been given great authority. He is Lord of the Church (believers) now and proving His perfect leadership, He is given all kingdoms of the world to rule over (Psalm 2:8). After so perfectly without any error, then He returns the Kingdom to the Father.

Paul emphasizes that the Father is never under the authority of the Son.

V28 When everything will be under his authority, then the Son will also be under the authority of him who put everything under him, so that God may be completely over all.

When all has been accomplished, then the Son (God the Son—the Lord Jesus) will be under the authority of God the Father.

From Precept Austin: “THOUGHT – Since God is to be all in all, may He grant us the Spirit-enabled desire and power to continually, daily choose to bow down and worship Him now and forever and ever as our ALL IN ALL. In His Holy Name. Amen. Take a moment to worship Jesus, the Lamb of God, Who Alone is Worthy to be worshiped.”

We learn:

  • After the Rapture and the resurrection of believers, Jesus reigns in the Millennial Kingdom.
  • Jesus conquers every enemy, including death.

Questions:

  • Are you looking forward to Jesus conquering every enemy?
  • Are you under the authority of the Lord Jesus?
