My Daily Thoughts—Galatians 3:7-9

Galatians 3:7-9 (WEL) So then, we understand that those who are of faith are the children of Abraham. 8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God justifies the Gentiles by faith, preached the Gospel in advance to Abraham, “In you all nations will be blessed.” [Genesis 12:3, 18:18, and 22:18] 9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with faithful Abraham.

V7 So then, we understand that those who are of faith are the children of Abraham.

Abraham was saved by his faith in God. God spoke a promise, and Abraham believed. Genesis 15:5-6 (NRSV) “He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” 6 And he believed the LORD; and the LORD reckoned it to him as righteousness.”

V8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God justifies the Gentiles by faith, preached the Gospel in advance to Abraham, “In you all nations will be blessed.” [Genesis 12:3, 18:18, and 22:18]

The Greek word for foreseeing is G4308. προοράω prooraō, which means (Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament Based on Semantic Domains (Louw & Nida)) “to have seen something or someone beforehand or prior to an event in question.”

It does not mean decree or exhaustive knowledge of a settled future.

It was God’s plan to provide and offer salvation to every human being. See 1 Timothy 2:4.

The blessing to all nations refers to the fact that not only Abraham’s physical descendants can be saved but any ethnic person who believes in the same God that Abraham did.

V9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with faithful Abraham.

Any person meeting God’s condition of faith in Him will be saved, forgiven, blessed, adopted, justified, sanctified, glorified, and adopted just like Abraham was.

(NKJV Study Notes Full Color, 3rd Edition) “Scripture is personified as a preacher who foretells that Abraham and his example of faith (see Gen. 15:6) would become a life-changing blessing to all nations (see Gen. 12:3; Matt. 28:19) as the gospel spread. All who have faith, as Abraham did, join in his blessed status.”

We learn:

  • The plan of salvation has always been the same.
  • Abraham is one of the greatest and clearest examples.

Questions:

  • Have you believed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
  • Are you thankful for His provision?
