2 Corinthians 5:6-8 (WEL) Therefore, we can always be confident that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord 7 (For we live by faith, not by sight.) 8 We are confident and willing instead to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
V6 Therefore, we can always be confident that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.
We are not separated from God on earth, but we are not with Him in heaven. The body here is our physical body.
V7 (For we live by faith, not by sight).
Nevertheless, since we live by faith, not sight, we believe His promises (John 14:1-4) and His continual presence with believers (Hebrews 13:5 and 1 Corinthians 3:16).
Compare Romans 4:12. Walking by faith is living our lives believing God’s words (the Bible) enough to live it.
V8 We are confident and willing instead to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
Still we long for heaven. It is our inheritance.
1 Peter 1:3-5 (NKJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
We learn:
• This life is temporary.
• This life is not our best life now.
Questions:
• Are you living and seeking the things of this life or eternal life? (Matthew 6:33)
• Do you long to be in heaven?
