Proverbs 3:5-6 (EHV) Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Trust is a reasonable understanding of life. It is not blind faith. Blind faith means there is no logical, rational reason to believe. A reasonable faith means there is a reason, logical, and rational reason to believe.
Four things: 1)Trust, 2) Don’t rely on ourselves, 3) Acknowledge Him, and 4) He will help (He doesn’t say when but that He will).
We do not know the future, so we trust God. We do not always know why something is happening; it just doesn’t make sense. Consider Abraham, Job, Joseph, Apostles, Paul, Philip, etc. But, they did trust. They did not deny the faith. Abraham didn’t understand why he was given the command to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22:1-18). Job was way off, for he thought God was doing all these horrible things, when it was actually satan. Joseph (Genesis 37-42 and Genesis 45:5-11) didn’t understand why his brothers sold him into slavery, his being falsely accused of sexual molestation, attempt at rape, his imprisonment, nor why he still needed to remain in prison after interpreting the Butler/Cupbearer and Baker’s dreams. The Apostles did not understand why Jesus needed to die, nor did they understand His talk about His resurrection (Luke 18:31-34). Paul did not understand why or what was going to happen regarding the warnings of imprisonment in Jerusalem (Acts 20:22-25). Philip didn’t understand why he needed to leave the revival in Samaria to travel to the desert (Acts 8:26-39). All was made clear later as if God was saying, “You’ll understand later.”
All of these had experiences in life with God’s ways and rules. Thus, we also might be going through difficult situations that we do not understand. We must remain faithful the best we know how with God’s assisting grace (Revelation 2:10, 2 Timothy 4:17-18, and Psalm 119:71). The Bible is the only source of 100% truth (Psalm 119:160). Prayer is the only communication with our God (1 Thessalonians 5:17 and James 5:13). Obedience to the Scriptures (understood in their plain, normal sense) is one of the ways we love Jesus (John 14:15).
