Revelation 14:6-8 (NKJV) Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people— 7 saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”
8 And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”
V6 “Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people…” The Gospel was first preached by the Lord Jesus, then the Apostles, believers, and now angels. God wants people of the world to hear the Gospel so they might repent and believe in Jesus. The Gospel has never changed. Abraham believed and now all people must believe.
V7 “…saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.” The Gospel message never changes. The basic is to have faith in God as Abraham (Genesis 15:6, Romans 4:1-6, and Hebrews 11:8). To fear God is to fear His wrath, submit to His kingship and kingdom, and obey His laws. Judgment has been foretold, and now the time has arrived. Worship is to recognize God’s greatness, honor His name, obey His laws, love Him, serve Him, tell others of Him, and remain loyal to Him.
V8 “And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” Babylon is a city. It still is. The name of the nearest city is Hillah, Iraq. Babylon apparently is the headquarters of business and government. It is the headquarters of the antiChrist. The city falling is a judgment of the leader (antiChrist), false religion (worship of antiChrist), rebel government of antiChrist, business, banking, etc. The Greek word for “fall” is (G4098) πίπτω píptō, which means going from a high place to a low place, thus, fall in many senses. Here, it is the idea of being reduced to rubble. Babylon forced on humanity satan’s leader (antiChrist), worship, worldview, lifestyle, laws, and culture. All these things are condemned by God. Fornication is worship of anything but the creator (Jesus Christ).
We learn:
- The gospel is heard by all humanity; no one has any excuses.
- Judgment is foretold and fulfilled.
