Thoughts on Discipling Part 3 Doctrine Part C

E6 Holiness
F1 Definition
G1 The Hebrew word is קֹדֶשׁ qôdesh.
G2 It has the idea of separation. God’s face is hidden in the fire and cloud. He is separate from sinners. It also seems to me that it has the idea what is dead stinks. All of creation in dying. Sin brings death. What is dead stinks. God doesn’t like the smell. There is no death or stench in heaven or in the presence of God. So, the illustration shows the avoidance of God regarding sin and sinners.
G3 Ephesians 5:2 NLT Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. In this passage we notice the sinless (holy) Messiah, Jesus, being a wonderful odor as the pleasing sacrifice for our sins. Note too, sin is mentioned as repulsive to God. God wants us to have a changed life.
G4 The holy anointing oil was pleasant: Exodus 30:25 CSB Prepare from these a holy anointing oil, a scented blend, the work of a perfumer; it will be holy anointing oil.
G4 There also seems to be a contrast between something clear and pure and something filthy. Thus, a separation of the two.
H1 One translation: Isaiah 35:8 NASB A highway will be there, a roadway, And it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, But it will be for him who walks that way, And fools will not wander on it.
H2 Another with additional verses: Isaiah 35:8-10 GNB There will be a highway there, called “The Road of Holiness.” No sinner will ever travel that road; no fools will mislead those who follow it. 9 No lions will be there; no fierce animals will pass that way. Those whom the LORD has rescued will travel home by that road. 10 They will reach Jerusalem with gladness, singing and shouting for joy. They will be happy forever, forever free from sorrow and grief.
F2 Bible verse:
G1 Hebrews 12:14 CSB Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness—without it no one will see the Lord.
G2 Hebrews 9:28 NLT so also Christ died once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.
G3 Hebrews 10:10 NLT For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.
G4 God alone can cleanse from the filth of sin: Isaiah 1:18 NLT Come now, let’s settle this,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.
E7 Humility
F1 Definition: The Greek word is ταπεινός tapeinós. It means humble. Sometimes we understand the word better if we see the opposite, the antonym—arrogant, conceited, egotistical, etc.
F2 Bible verse: Matthew 11:29 NRSV Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
F3 Example: Matthew 21:5 NLT Tell the people of Jerusalem, ‘Look, your King is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt.
F4 Philippians 2:5-8 NLT You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
E8 Judgment
F1 Definition
G1 He is the Supreme Judge.
G2 It is related to His justice (see below).
G3 It is seen in His words (Deuteronomy 5:1), His deeds (Exodus 6:6), and His promise of future decisions.
G4 God is judge of all beings: Acts 10:42 NLT And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of allthe living and the dead.
G5 He judges our public and private life: Romans 2:16 NLT And this is the message I proclaimthat the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.
F2 Bible verse
G1 Micah 4:3 NLT The LORD will mediate between peoples and will settle disputes between strong nations far away. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore.
G2 Psalm 96:12-13 NLT Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Let the trees of the forest rustle with praise before the LORD, for he is coming! He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with his truth.
E9 Just
F1 Definition
G1 Something perfectly aligned with a standard without favoritism to anyone.
G2 The Hebrew word is צַדִּיק tsaddîyq. It means just, honest, righteous, virtuous, etc.
H1 Isaiah 53:11 NASB As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities. [Emphasis is mine]
H2 Deuteronomy 32:4 NIV He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.
H3 Isaiah 45:21 NLT Consult together, argue your case. Get together and decide what to say. Who made these things known so long ago? What idol ever told you they would happen? Was it not I, the LORD? For there is no other God but me, a righteous God and Savior. There is none but me.
G3 The Greek word is δίκαιος díkaios. It means to obey laws, innocent, without guilt. In the Bible, it has the sense of perfectly obeying God’s laws in thoughts, desires, words, and deeds aligning ourselves to God’s thoughts, desires, words, and deeds.
H1 1 Peter 3:18 MKJV For Christ also once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, indeed being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit.
H2 John 5:30 NIV By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
H3 1 John 2:29 CSB If you know that he is righteous, you know this as well: Everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
G4 It also has the idea of fulfilling assigned duties perfectly.
F2 The standard for this obedience is God Himself. He is just in every good way we have defined. Psalm 96:12-13 NLT Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Let the trees of the forest rustle with praise before the LORD, for he is coming! He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with his truth.
F3 A comment from the Biblical Illustrator OT on Ecclesiastes 8:11 regarding 2 methods of God’s judgment:
G1 There is a swift method the Lord sometimes takes with sinners (Malachi 3:5). Sometimes the sinner has an ill work in design, and the Lord counts his will for the deed, and prevents by a speedy execution; as in Haman’s case. He hatched the mischief, but be did not see it come forth. Sometimes the sinner is in actual motion to the ill work, and execution is done on him ere he get it performed. So it fared with the rebellious Israelites, in their attempting to go into the promised land (Numbers 14:44, 45).
G2 There is a slow method the Lord takes oftentimes with sinners (Nehemiah 9:17). They commit their evil works; the sentence is presently passed for them: but then the execution is delayed (Psalm 50:21). The sinner may get his evil work contrived and accomplished, without any let in this way from Heaven, by any execution against him. The ill work being done without let [hindrance—editor], the sinner may also for a time pass unpunished, and as little notice may seem to be taken of it as if there were not a God to judge upon the earth (Ezekiel 9:9). Nay, sinners may prosper in an ill course. So far may they be from execution done against them, that they may thrive in the world in it (Psalm 37:35). When execution is at length begun, it may be carried on very leisurely for a time: the drops may come very few and soft before the shower (Isaiah 9:1). More than all that, the execution may be entirely put off during this life.
